Hatch and Noodlecake Studios team up to distribute cool games, save world

Noodlecake Studios and Hatch have partnered to bring awesome, crazy, beautiful and very premium games to the first ever app to stream games as easily as movies or music. Noodlecake’s award-winning and widely lauded games, which ordinarily carry an up-front price to download, will be playable instantly on Hatch’s cloud gaming service.

Chameleon Run, a fast-paced runner with a unique color-switching mechanic and winner of an Apple Design Award, is live on Hatch as of today. Other Noodlecake-published titles coming soon to Hatch include Death Road To Canada, Lumino City, Island Delta, Wayward Souls, Framed and Framed 2.

Hatch’s cloud gaming service means that games are played over the Internet, freeing up local storage space on mobiles and eliminating the need for downloads, installations, updates or other hassles. Because Hatch games are hosted in the cloud rather than on users’ phones, developers are free to create even bigger, more full-featured premium experiences for their players in a completely secure, piracy-free environment.

“We are super excited to support publishers like Noodlecake, who are showing the world just how delightful and different mobile gaming experiences can be,” says Hatch co-founder and Head of Content Vesa Jutila. “Free-to-play games obviously have a place in the market, but their dominance means that mass consumers have been missing out on other types of games that are not designed around in-app purchasing. With instant play via our unique streaming tech and monetisation via advertising or subscription, Hatch sees an opportunity to grow the mobile games market and offer consumers a painless, low-risk way to discover and play great games they never knew existed or were even possible on mobile.”

“With the shift to free-to-play as the dominant model in mobile, many unique premium experiences are going unplayed and that is a total shame,” says Ryan Holowaty, Noodlecake’s VP Publishing and Marketing. “We have been working with talented indie developers for years to help bring their vision to life and it has been up to us to work with them to find outlets that not only have premium titles, but support them as well. We share the same ideology with Hatch in this regard and their platform is an exciting new way for us to bring these games to players all over the world who would have passed it by due to the price tag earlier.”

Noodlecake joins a growing list of more than 100 game developers and publishers signing up to distribute their premium content through Hatch, from indies like Butterscotch Shenanigans (Crashlands) and Playdigious (Mini Metro) to established majors like SEGA (Sonic Jump) and Bandai Namco (PAC-MAN CE DX). All games on Hatch are fully premium experiences, with no in-app purchases.

Hatch is currently free while in open beta in Europe and monetises with a mix of advertising and brand storytelling. An optional paid subscription that removes ads and brings more features and content will be introduced later.

Notes to editors

Hatch’s agreement with Noodlecake covers seven titles to start with:

Chameleon Run

Developed by Prague-based Hyperbolic Magnetism and given a Gold award by Pocket Gamer, Chameleon Run is a unique, fast and stylish autorunner with a colorful twist. Your goal is to go through several levels without touching the ground of a different color than your character.

Death Road To Canada

Named the Game of the Year 2017 by TouchArcade, in the anarchic Death Road To Canada (Rocketcat/Madgarden) you control and manage a car full of jerks as they explore cities, recruit weird people, argue with each other, and face gigantic swarms of slow zombies. Built for replay value, there’s a different story every time you play, set in a world that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Framed and Framed 2

In the celebrated Framed series developed by Australia’s Loveshack, you rearrange the panels of an animated comic book to craft the story of a noir-styled spy adventure. Presented in an extensive series of visual puzzles requiring logic and imagination, each panel move changes the current narrative, leading to all kinds of comedic blunders, untimely deaths – and when solved correctly – stylish heists, fast getaways and nail-biting escapades. “Guilty of awesome,” according to Rock Paper Shotgun.

Island Delta

In the retro-futuristic world of Island Delta by Helsinki-based developer Mantisbite, you wield a powerful anti-gravity weapon to defeat dangerous enemies, solve puzzles and overcome hazardous traps. The game features an exciting storyline with twists and humour, and an angled top-down art style rendered beautifully in 3D.

Lumino City

Winner of a BAFTA Award for Artistic Achievement, UK-based State of Play’s Lumino City is made entirely by hand using paper, card, wood, miniature lights and motors. Lumi’s grandfather, the caretaker of Lumino City, has been kidnapped. To find him, Lumi must explore the city and figure out the peculiar and fascinating mechanisms that power it, and uncover the mysterious secrets of the city.

Wayward Souls

An action-adventure dungeon crawler with randomized levels and “permanent death,” as the developer Rocketcat cheerfully notes, Wayward Souls features quick, twitch-based combat where tactics, positioning and timing matter. According to AppSpy, it’s “a hugely enjoyable and elegantly compulsive battler which offers massive rewards for those willing to learn its merciless lessons.”

About Noodlecake Studios

Noodlecake Studios is a small indie game studio based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Founded in early 2011, Noodlecake found success with its first game, Super Stickman Golf. Eventually things changed for us when we decided to port some titles to the Google Play market and dip our toes into Android development. The TL;DR version of this story allowed us to work with some amazing indie devs and help them port their games. Through that we built a publishing company to go alongside our ongoing game development. Today our team continues to grow and we get to partner with amazing devs from all over the world. But through all that, one thing never changed, nor will it ever: We love games.
