Hatch partners with SEGA as industry momentum behind cloud gaming service accelerates

Sonic Jump, Sonic 4 Episode 2, Sonic CD, Crazy Taxi and Virtua Tennis to join world’s first service for streaming games on mobile as easily as movies or music

Hatch is partnering with SEGA to bring beloved, high quality gaming experiences to new audiences on mobile. As a first step in their partnership, the two companies have agreed to bring the SEGA games Sonic Jump, Sonic 4 Episode 2, Sonic CD, Crazy Taxi and Virtua Tennis to Hatch, the world’s first cloud gaming service for mobile that lets players stream games as easily as they would movies or music.

SEGA is the latest partner to sign on to distribute their content via Hatch, joining a highly curated, hand-picked collection of titles from established majors like Bandai Namco (PAC-MAN CE DX), Square Enix (Hitman Sniper) and Ubisoft (Rayman Fiesta Run) and celebrated indies like ustwo Games (Monument Valley), Frogmind (Badland) and Headup Games (the Bridge Constructor franchise).

Hatch’s cloud gaming service means that games are no longer downloaded – they are played over the Internet, without degradation in quality – freeing up local storage space on mobile devices and eliminating the need for downloads, installations, updates or other hassles. Because Hatch games are hosted in the cloud rather than on users’ phones, developers can also create even bigger, more full-featured premium experiences for their players in a completely secure, piracy-free environment.

“We are excited to be part of Hatch’s pioneering effort to deliver entertainment in a new and frictionless way,” says Naoki Kameda, COO, SEGA Networks. “With Hatch, we see an excellent opportunity to allow players to engage with five of our classic games in a new way.”

“SEGA is a gaming industry legend that stands for the highest level of passion and creativity, setting new standards in interactive entertainment,” says Juhani Honkala, Hatch founder and CEO. “We are thrilled to welcome SEGA to the Hatch family.”

Hatch Beta is out now on Google Play in 16 countries in Europe. The service is currently free with ads; an optional paid subscription that adds exclusive content and features and removes ads will be introduced later. Bandwidth usage varies by game between 1.0 and 2.5 Mbps, which is less than half that required for HD video streaming.
