Live demo and casual eSports tournament at Slush to showcase next generation cloud gaming over 5G
Hatch Entertainment and Finland’s leading telecommunications company Elisa are collaborating to bring new 5G gaming experiences to Finland, starting with a live demo of Hatch’s cloud gaming service and a casual eSports tournament at Slush in Helsinki (Dec. 4-5) and continuing into 2019 with mobile eSports events across the country.
At Slush, visitors to the Hatch booth will be able to play full-featured, premium games on Hatch over a live 5G network. Additionally, visitors to the Hatch booth or the Elisa booth can take part in a casual eSports tournament exclusive to Slush participants only, drawing on select games from the Hatch collection that showcase the competitive multiplayer features of the platform. The winner will be announced at the end of the two-day startup conference.
“At previous public events, we have already seen how approachable and casual eSports tournaments on Hatch can generate footfall and bring together people from all kinds of backgrounds and age groups,” says Juhani Honkala, founder and CEO of Hatch. “By working with Elisa to deliver an even richer competitive multiplayer experience over 5G, we can showcase the consumer benefits of 5G and cloud gaming while also bringing a spirit of fun and friendly competition to the floor at Slush.”
“Elisa is deeply involved in developing mobile gaming culture in Finland and offering it to large audiences through Elisa Viihde Sport channels. As a forerunner in 5G technologies helping to set the pace for their adoption, it feels like a natural next step for Elisa Viihde to enter the era of 5G gaming, states Mika Lepistö, Head of Elisa Viihde Sport & Pay-TV. “Everybody has a mobile phone in their pocket, and with even faster connections, 5G will offer much better gaming opportunities and user experiences than before. We are excited to work with Hatch, who are providing a great consumer use case for 5G with their ultra-low latency cloud gaming service. We’ll make a great team at Slush and beyond, as we show our customers engaging esport events and what kinds of things they can do now with 5G.”
A pioneer in game streaming, Hatch is the first app to stream games as easily as video or music, allowing users to play games instantly, with no downloads, installation or fuss. On Hatch, even single player games can be played together, as users can pass controls and voice chat while playing live. All games in the curated Hatch collection – from arcade classics like Pac-Man CE DX and Space Invaders Infinity Gene to modern masterpieces like Monument Valley and Crashlands – are high quality premium experiences, with no in-app purchases.
Elisa is a leader in the implementation of 5G in Finland and Estonia. Last June, the company opened the world’s first precommercial 5G network in Tampere and in Tallinn, Estonia. In October, Elisa opened a 5G network in Helsinki. 5G frequencies will be in commercial use in Finland from January 1, 2019. The first commercial 5G devices are expected during 2019. Elisa has also built 5G readiness to its 4G mobile networks in the cities of Turku, Tampere and Jyväskylä. In Helsinki and Seinäjoki the readiness is being finalized during 2018. 5G readiness makes updating the network to actual 5G faster and easier, and it already benefits users now with faster and more reliable connections.
Hatch is the cloud gaming service built for the always on, always connected 5G world, streaming rich, full-featured games to the screens already in your life.
